The company behind the White Horse at Priors Dean has called a creditors' meeting for 5 October, the first step to liquidation. What the record shows.

The company that runs the White Horse at Priors Dean, the pub everyone calls the Pub With No Name, has called a meeting of its creditors. The meeting is the step that puts a company into creditors’ voluntary liquidation.

A notice in the London Gazette, published on 23 September, names the company as White Horse (Priors Dean) Ltd. It gives its trading address as Monkey Lane, Priors Dean, GU32 1DA. The hamlet sits about four miles north-west of Petersfield.

The virtual meeting is set for Monday 5 October at 11.15am.

What the notice says

The meeting is being called under section 100 of the Insolvency Act 1986. That section lets creditors put forward their own choice of liquidator once a company’s directors decide it cannot pay its debts.

The Gazette notice records that:

  • the company’s registered office is 1092 Loughborough Road, Rothley, Leicester
  • creditors must send proof of their debt by 4pm on the business day before the meeting to vote
  • proofs and proxies go to CBA Business Solutions, 126 New Walk, Leicester
  • Steven Glanvill and Neil C Money of CBA Business Solutions are the insolvency practitioners named in the notice
  • creditors can ask them for information about the company’s affairs free of charge before the meeting

The notice does not say whether the pub has stopped trading. We could not find a working website for the current business today. A liquidation is not, in itself, a finding of wrongdoing by anyone.

A young company in a very old pub

Companies House records show White Horse (Priors Dean) Ltd was incorporated on 30 January 2025. It is registered as a public house and bar business. Its first accounts, made up to 31 January 2026, are not due until 30 October 2026, so there are no published figures to show how it traded.

The pub itself is much older than the company. CAMRA’s listing describes it as “a substantial 17th century pub hidden at the end of a small lane”. It gets its nickname because the signpost on the main road lost its sign board many years ago.

CAMRA rates its interior at two stars: “a pub interior of very special national historic interest”. The left-hand bar has barely changed in decades. The right-hand bar was made out of an adjoining shed around 1962.

The kitchen was doing well on the official record. The Food Standards Agency register gives The White Horse, Monkey Lane, a top rating of 5 (very good), from an inspection on 10 September 2025.

Not on the council’s protected list

CAMRA’s page labels the pub an asset of community value. The council’s own register does not.

East Hampshire District Council publishes its list of assets of community value, last updated on 9 September 2026. The White Horse at Priors Dean appears on neither the current list nor the list of expired listings.

That matters if the building itself is ever sold. A listed asset cannot be sold for six weeks after its owner says it is for sale. If a community group registers an interest, the council explains, the group gets up to six months to put a bid together.

A liquidation of the operating company is not the same thing as a sale of the pub building. The Gazette notice does not say who owns the freehold.

What it means for you

  • To vote at the 5 October meeting, get your proof of debt in by 4pm on Friday 2 October.
  • If you have a booking at the pub, contact the business directly before you travel.
  • If you want the pub protected, a parish council or a local community group can nominate it as an asset of community value. The council’s nomination form is on the same page as the register.

East Hampshire’s pubs are under pressure. This month the district council asked the Chancellor for deeper business rates relief and a VAT cut for hospitality. It says the sector supports 3,500 jobs in the district, 8.1 per cent of the workforce. The council first made its case for a 35 per cent rates cut in August, when it said the relief would cover 155 pubs and bars across the district.
