Farmers' market on 4 October, the South Downs Open from 10 October, Halloween Hollow at QECP on 30 and 31 October, then Steep's bonfire on 5 November.

The biggest dates between now and early November are all outdoors. The farmers’ market is in The Square on Sunday 4 October. The museum reopens with the South Downs Open on Saturday 10 October. Half term brings Halloween Hollow at Queen Elizabeth Country Park on the 30th and 31st, and Steep’s bonfire and fireworks are on Thursday 5 November. The rest is a steady run of walks, workshops and village evenings.

Two things to know first. Petersfield Museum and Art Gallery is closed from 28 September to 9 October while the new exhibition goes up (Petersfield Museum). The Taro Fair on the Heath has still not been given a 2026 date by the town council or the operator. Our Taro Fair page explains why 9 to 11 October is the likely weekend, and we will add it here once the date is confirmed.

This week

  • PeCAN Volunteers Evening, Wednesday 30 September, 7pm to 9pm, upstairs at The Folly. The climate network’s volunteers meet here every other month for a short presentation and breakout groups. You can pick up a free drink token at the door (PeCAN).
  • Rotherlands Conservation Session, Friday 2 October, 10am to 3pm, meeting at Petersfield Rugby Football Club, Penns Place. Free. A volunteer day with the town council’s ranger, coppicing alder and hazel at Rotherlands Nature Reserve to make habitat for dormice (Petersfield Town Council Ranger).
  • The Maverick South Downs Trail, Saturday 3 October, 7.30am to 5pm, Queen Elizabeth Country Park. Entry from £25. A trail race over five distances, from a short route to an ultra through Harting Downs. Expect runners on the South Downs Way all day (Queen Elizabeth Country Park).

  • Wild Wander Wellbeing Walk, Tuesday 6 October, 10am to 11.30am, from Town Hall Chambers, Heath Road. Free. A gentle walk of 3 to 5km with the Petersfield Ranger on local paths and pavements, looking at nature and heritage (Petersfield Town Council).
  • South Downs Open 2026, from Saturday 10 October to 13 March 2027, Petersfield Museum and Art Gallery, St Peter’s Road. The museum’s open exhibition has 183 works by 165 artists, plus an under-18 section, all inspired by the South Downs. Everything is for sale (Petersfield Museum).
  • Creative Saturday: The Big Draw, Saturday 10 October, 10.30am to 12pm, at the museum. Free, but you need to book, and children must come with an adult. Families draw, make marks and print together on one big artwork to open the exhibition (Petersfield Museum).
  • Mosaic House Plaques workshop, Saturday 10 October, 10.30am to 1pm, Queen Elizabeth Country Park. £65 including materials. Make a 25cm by 19cm house plaque to your own design, taught by Beverley of Azure Mosaics (Queen Elizabeth Country Park).
  • Bingo Night, Saturday 10 October, 7pm to 10pm, Steep Village Hall, Church Road, GU32 2DQ (Steep Village).
  • A Forest Bathing Experience, Sunday 11 October, 10am to 12.30pm, Queen Elizabeth Country Park. From £10. A slow, guided session with Kate from Woodland Wellbeing, finishing with woodland tea. Meet at the main visitor reception (Queen Elizabeth Country Park).

Later in October

  • Guided Woodland Walk, Tuesday 13 October, 10am to 12pm, from the Queen Elizabeth Country Park visitor centre. Free, but book so staff know to expect you. About three miles at a gentle pace, with a few short steep hills (Queen Elizabeth Country Park).
  • Folklore and Fable Autumn Trail, Saturday 17 October to Sunday 1 November, 10.30am to 4pm, Gilbert White’s House, Selborne, GU34 3JH. Trail sheets are £2 on top of admission. Children follow a map with a journey stick round the gardens, visiting trees tied to old folklore. Best for ages 5 and up (Gilbert White’s House).
  • Foraging in the South Downs, Sunday 18 October, 12pm to 3.30pm, Queen Elizabeth Country Park. Adults £60, under-16s £30. Wild Food UK leads a walk of about 2.5 hours identifying plants and mushrooms, then serves a wild food lunch (Queen Elizabeth Country Park).
  • Forest Bathing introductory session, Thursday 22 October, 10.30am to 12.30pm, meeting at Gravel Hill car park, Queen Elizabeth Country Park. Free, booking required (Queen Elizabeth Country Park).
  • Time Traveller Holiday Club, Monday 26 to Friday 30 October, Butser Ancient Farm, Chalton Lane, PO8 0BG. £48 per child per day. A half-term club for ages 6 to 13, with drop-off from 9am and pick-up by 5pm. Each day covers a different period, from the Stone Age to the Saxons (Butser Ancient Farm).
  • A Magic Journey with Wightwick Hall 6989, Monday 26 to Wednesday 28 October, Watercress Line from Alresford. A steam trip behind the heritage locomotive. Children aged 2 to 16 are £25, adults £35, a bench £30 and a compartment for six £250, plus a £2.50 booking fee (Watercress Line).
  • Little Adventures Halloween Forest School, Wednesday 28 October, 10.30am to 12pm, Queen Elizabeth Country Park. £12.50. For ages 2 and a half to 8: creepy crawlies, potions, dens and a treat toasted on the fire. Adults must stay but do not need to book (Queen Elizabeth Country Park).
  • Punch and Judy, Wednesday 28 October, shows at 11.15am and 12.15pm, The Shed, Sergeants Yard, Bordon, GU35 0DJ. A Halloween version of the show (The Shed).
  • PeCAN at the Pub, Wednesday 28 October, 7pm to 9pm, The Folly. The climate network’s social evening, held downstairs to the right of the bar (PeCAN).
  • Halloween Witches of Watercress Woods, Thursday 29 to Saturday 31 October, trains from Alresford at 12.30pm and 3pm. £35 a seat plus a £2.50 booking fee. A family story train of about 1 hour 40 minutes, with characters along the line. The same line runs a separate Halloween Horror Train for over-18s (Watercress Line).
  • Halloween Magic Show, Friday 30 October, 11am or 12.15pm, The Shed, Bordon. Clumsy Entertainment’s Halloween show (The Shed).
  • Halloween Hollow, Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October, sessions at 10am, 12pm and 2pm, Queen Elizabeth Country Park. £10 per child, adults free, and you must book. There is a Halloween trail and a pumpkin playground, then each child carves a pumpkin to take home. Parking is charged on top (Queen Elizabeth Country Park).
  • Petersfield Repair Café, Saturday 31 October, 1.30pm to 3.30pm, Avenue Pavilion, GU31 4JQ. Bring clothes, electricals, crockery and toys for volunteers to help you mend (PeCAN).
  • Petersfield RFC v Havant II, Saturday 31 October, Penns Place. The men’s 1st XV at home in the league. The club’s fixture list does not give a kick-off time yet (Petersfield RFC).
  • Halloween Party Special, Saturday 31 October, The Shed, Bordon. There is a children’s party from 5pm to 7pm, then an adults’ party from 8pm to 11.30pm. Fancy dress is encouraged (The Shed).

November

  • Steep Bonfire and Fireworks, Thursday 5 November, Steep Common, GU32 2DE. Gates open at 6.30pm, the bonfire is lit at 7.15pm and the fireworks start at 7.45pm. Child £6, adult £10, family of two adults and two children £25. Park at Bedales on Church Road and walk up (Steep Village). Our fireworks page has the other displays.
  • Minibrix Club, Saturday 7 November, 10am to 4pm, Petersfield Museum and Art Gallery. Free drop-in, no admission ticket needed. Build with Minibrix, the construction toy made in Petersfield, using the museum’s handling collection (Petersfield Museum).
  • Bordon Fireworks Extravaganza, Saturday 7 November, 5.30pm to 8.30pm, The Shed, Sergeants Yard, Bordon. Free. Children’s rides and stalls open at 5.30pm and the display starts at 7pm. The road is closed from 4pm to 8pm and parking is limited, so the venue asks people to walk (The Shed).
  • Remembrance Sunday, Sunday 8 November, The Square, then the war memorial on the High Street. The town council has not published the 2026 times yet (Petersfield Town Council). Our Remembrance Sunday page has last year’s timings and the village services.
